<해설> '계획이 사라지다', '물거품이 되고말다' 는"Plans went up in smoke."라고 한다. '창업하다'는 start (up) one's own business이고 back out은 '취소하다'의 뜻이다. 따라서 "The investors backed out."은"They withdrew."와 같은 뜻이다. "business is business."는 경쟁이 심한 상황(a dog-eat-dog world, a competitive world)에서 '일은 일이다'라는 의미로 이해하면 된다.
